fantasy / sci fi names 101

When in doubt, add an apostrophe.

movies i’ve seen lately

drive - the american, but good.

tree of life -  really enjoyed this one, as you can tell by the lack of capitalization.  a movie about everything that sometimes comes across as nothing but really is something.

green lantern - not bad!  cheesy dialogue and a stilted plot, but it works better than transformers or gi joe.  ryan reynolds is dreamy.

the american - drive, but bad.

apocalypse now - had me until marlon brando.  the rambling just didn’t fit the rest of the movie and as a result it sputtered to an unsatisfying ending.  watched hearts of darkness and realized it was because marlon brando was batshit crazy.  still a great movie.

casablanca - definitely see why it’s a classic!

the people vs. george lucas - a movie about nerd rage sugarly edited but with no real content.  fan service packaged well.  freakin’ nerds.

attack the block - cool little movie.  wish the monsters were better.

e3

Fifa - controls for defense are completely different.  B is now standing tackle, A only tracks / straddles players, and R1 is bring secondary defender.  Honestly, I couldn’t figure it out despite playing 3 games.  Basically, it’s more timing based now and you really have to pick your spots when you want to go for the ball.  Complete revamp, probably for the better but it was hard trying to relearn how to play in an hour.

offense is yet again slower, more dribble based.  passes are a lot more manual now; you gotta really consider power to get your passes where they want to go.  the new dribbling mechanics + defense means that van persie isn’t a sack of useless shit anymore.  he can actually use his feet to get to his spots and shoot without losing the ball.

the other main thing is a revamped animation / physicality engine.  basically, players react to one another more than where the ball is.  it’s kinda hard to describe, but it means that you can squeeze some dribbles that you wouldn’t be able to in 11 while at the same time you can blow up players on defense a lot more.  send them flying and shit without fouls being called.  pretty cool.

LOTR: War in the North - pretty fun hack n slash multiplayer game.  solid animations and camera angles, decent graphics if not a bit dated.  really satisfying combat mechanics.  you can just jam away at X or Y to attack, but then hold RT for some cool special skills ala WoW (whirlwind, spells, call down a fucking eagle to eat things etc.).   LT puts you into ranged combat.  my guy was a dwarf, so when he went into ranged he busted out a crossbow.  demo was pretty easy, but it was fun going through it with two other fools by my side.  looks like a neat little game.

Aliens:  Colonel Marines - saw a closed door preview of the first 10 minutes of the game.  think CoDish events mixed with Aliens.  looked pretty cool.  graphics were solid; lot of depth of field and lighting effects.  a neat change from previous FPS Aliens attempts:  instead of having the motion tracker on the HUD, the player has to manually bust it out in order to see what’s coming his way.  makes for a really tense experience.  then again, in the demo the motion tracker was only used in two spots and they were clearly “use motion tracker oh fuck” moments — quasi scripted.  looks promising, and gearbox definitely knows their FPSes.

Battlefield 3 - game of the show and I didn’t even get to play.  graphics are amazing.  this is next gen caliber stuff if microsoft and sony actually had the balls to release a new console.  all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a state of the art FPS.  just look up the screenshots and videos.  amazing, amazing stuff.  we tried to get into the multiplayer demo, but it was a 4(!) hour wait.  seeing as how the show only runs from 10-6 and I only had a day…

anyway, everyone I talked to who played it claimed it was awesome.  ”flawless.”  ”impeccable.”  can’t wait.  was a big fan of BF2 and looking forward to getting this one on a PC when I can afford one lol.

Ubisoft - hottest booth babes.

Nintendo - close second.  though besides the Wii U (4-5 hour wait), there wasn’t much in the actual booth.  bunch of shovelware crap on Wii and some 3DS games, which I have no interest in.

MW3 - new MW, same as the old MW.

that’s all I had time to see.  really fun experience overall.  hope I can go back next year.

The Derek Fisher

Derek Fisher is a space ship built by Derek Fisher, who likes fish and who is a scientist. Derek Fisher likes to eat and feed fish, so he built a space ship like a fish. It is also built for the basketball player Derek Fisher, too.

Derek Fisher has 200,000,000,000 nanometers long, 10,000,000,000 nanometers wide. It has 10 engines, which use liquid hydrogen to run. And it has two guns to hit garbage.

Derek Fisher is used for cleaning space because space is full of garbage such as rocks, junk satellites, junk rockets, and asteroids. Derek Fisher can use its guns to hit them and make them smaller to sweep inside and clean the space.

Derek Fisher’s astronaut is Derek Fisher. Derek Fisher has five rooms; the control room, passenger room, gun-control room, engine room, and docking room. The control room is for Derek Fisher to control Derek Fisher. The passenger room is for passengers to sit and play. The gun-control room is for control gun, which is above the space ship. The engine room is contains the engines. The last room, the docking room, is for smaller space ships, which sweep small garbage in and out of space.

The small sweeper space ships are called Derek Small Fisher. They are miniature Derek Fishers.

That is the Derek Fisher. It is really good.
